We awoke to more rain and a
long day of riding. The plan was to ride from our hotel in
Chantemerle to the stage finish on L'Alpe
d'Huez, then on to our next hotel in Grenoble. The ride started in cold
rain on the gradual climb up to the col du Lautaret. We
stopped for coffee and to dry off. Next was scenic decent into the
Romandie Valley and the town of Le Bourg d'Oisans at the base Alpe d'Huez.
It took me about 1 hour to climb the 7 miles of 21 switchbacks. I
then rode down to the halfway point to watch the race. The
stage was eventually won by Giuseppe
Guerini even after
the now infamous collision with the camera wielding fan at 1 or 2
kilometers to go. After watching the stage I rode the 36 or so miles
mostly downhill to Grenoble. |
