Weather was about 50 degrees with clear skies and light winds. Santa Ana winds were blowing inland.
The 2008 Long Beach / Orange County New Years Day Ride had one of the larger turnouts I have seen in a while. I estimated the ride at 500 to 600 riders through Huntington and Newport Beach. By the time we reached Dana Point, only about 150 riders were left. The crosswinds on Irvine Blvd near Sand Canyon forced the peloton into an echelon, taking up all of the westbound lanes. No major incidents were seen.
